Labai dažnų lietuvių kalbos žodžių ir žodžių formų ypatybės
Andrius UTKA
The most frequent words and wordforms make a big proportion of any text in a language, in spite of the fact that the importance of these words is not sufficiently recognized in linguistic scholarship. The article presents characteristic features of the most frequent words and wordforms in Lithuanian texts, in terms of their frequency, length and the role they play in the language. A few conclusions have been made: – the most frequent words and wordforms have some characteristic features that distinguish them as a separate group from less frequent words and wordforms; – the main role of the most frequent words and wordforms (irrespective of the part of speech) is functional usage, as opposed to content usage; – the frequency distribution of the most frequent words and wordforms in texts is not accidental, as it points to the functional properties of texts.
