Erdvė ir laikas lietuvių eseistikoje
Laima ARNATKEVIČIŪTĖ

Space and time of an essay-style text is determined by the essay topics and material at the author’s disposal. Space and time can approach the reality of our days and transfer into a cultural-intellectual domain or inner space. Both M. Martinaitis and G. Beresnevičius in their essays model time and space after the signs of mythology and religion, the oppositions of top and bottom, which correspond to the sacral and the secular, are clearly drawn there and the time linearity is sensed. However, G. Beresnevičius in his essay articulates the cultural space dimension more intensively.
The structure of time and space in D. Kazragytė’s essay is determined by recollection, cultural experience, spiritual searching, transcendency of scenic art and human life. This dimension of vertical connection with the sacral world is better expressed through implication and recognized from emotions with an obvious aspect of value escaping between whiles.
In the time and space modelling sense, the literary essay style of G. Radvilavičiūtė is closer to modern prose. The position of here and now plays an important role as a frame of reference of a narrative way in the beginning and later in the entire work. The time and space of the work are created from a variegated but demonstratively subjective female experience emerging from trivial, as if unimportant details. The genre of essay, regardless of its universality, is a literature genre beyond debate, in which the form structure and the structures of time and space are being created according to the same narrative genre principles.
