 Tauragniškių pravardės
Ona ALEKNAVIČIENĖ
The main aim of the work was investigation of the Tauragnai village people’s nicknames. There is an objective onomastic reason for the existence of nicknames. A binary system (first name+surname) is not sufficient to identify a person, because many people have the same first name and surname; some village’s names are in phase with personal names. All the nicknames are described according to their motives: nicknames referring to a man’s kinship, a person’s living place, nicknames characterising profession, nicknames describing human physical features and temper, nicknames reflecting a person’s speech contents, nicknames informing about a man’s origin or nationality, nicknames given because of the associations produced by man’s first name or surname. The article deals with typical and atypical features of Tauragnai village people.
