The article analyzes the concept of the national. Nationality includes the main group of notions such as the ethnic aspect, patriotism, and the national soul, which are discussed more widely. Each of them is illustrated with examples from the journal “Akademikas”. The article analizes also the concept of national culture. At the beginning of the 20th century the cultural-national life in Lithuania was very active. Debates among philosophers and writers, various literary trends, popular interest in folklore – these were the main characteristics of the Lithuanian cultural-national life of that time. Undoubtedly, it is important that a certain ideological background (worldview through the national concept) remains; however, it is also important which ideas are disclosed.
At the end of the article, conclusions indicate how to keep national consciousness.
